Insidious 4 Almost Takes Down Jumanji

This weekend the first movie of 2018 was released. That movie being the fourth in a series of horror movies held it’s own against two fan favorites. It just wasn’t enough to stop Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle from finally taking the top spot.

Horror movies seemly do better at different times during the year. January is usually a slow month since most people are just starting to recover financially from the Holiday season. Insidious: The Last Key takes viewers back to the home that Elise Rainier grew up in before she became the parapsychologist we have seen from the previous installments. The movie has a small budget of $10 million, given that the movie has grossed $49 million world-wide its a financial success. The year is already starting off on a positive note. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle actually has been able to start almost consistent on making money each week since the movie was released. These two movies had the financial power to place Star Wars: The Last Jedi in third for the weekend.

The thing is Star Wars: The Last Jedi may have had some issues with the fans, it has been nothing but a success for Disney. Now with the world-wide total over $1 billion the movie has helped Disney make back that $4 billion investment when they purchased Star Wars. Personally I would rather wait to see a movie that was not based around Han Solo, though it should be interesting to watch.

Weekend Top Five

5. Pitch Perfect 3 $10 million

4. The Greatest Showman $13.8 million

3. Star Wars: The Last Jedi $23.5 million

2. Insidious: The Last Key $29 million

1. Jumanji: Welcome to the Jungle $36 million

Four movies will be releasing next weekend. The Commuter, Paddington 2, Proud Mary, and The Post will be all looking for the top spot. It should be interesting to see how people start the year off with a full weekend of movies being released. Since we here at TiCGN did not write a Golden Globes article yesterday please take a look at the winners here.
