Xbox has been needing to find a way to keep their fans engaged with the brand, and they have been doing a fairly good job of it recently in the past couple years. They brought back Inside Xbox awhile back, and now the revival of X018 this year at Xbox Fanfest Mexico. Inside Xbox had a special 2 hour segment, updating Xbox fans on what’s to come. There was definitely a ton of new a great news, but also some let downs (Where’s Ashen?). Let’s take a look at what went down during X018!
Only A Matter Of Time
When PlayersUnknown’s Battlegrounds launched on Xbox One, millions of players dived into it on launch day. To start off the Inside Xbox X018 showcase, it was announced that PUBG would be coming to Xbox Game Pass. This is just the start of many great additions that would be announced later on throughout the show.
Strategic Comic Book Shootin’
Void Bastards comes barreling out of the void, showcasing some very unique gameplay and art style. The game derives its influence from games like Bioshock and System Shock, so having this come to Xbox Game Pass will allow so many people to support and enjoy this unique game.
Game Pass Keeps Getting Better
More Xbox Game Pass news? Of course! One of the best announcements to come out of Inside Xbox was the addition of Hellblade: Senua’s Sacrifice. This game is an absolute masterpiece, yet has barely hit over a million sold which is very unfortunate. With it’s addition to Game Pass, I am personally very excited to see people play this game. With the focus on mental illness of psychosis and schizophrenia in a Norse horror setting, you walk away with one of the most memorable gaming experiences you may ever have.
Pirate vs. Pirate
The Sea of Thieves has just become a little bit deadlier. They are finally launching a players vs player mode called The Arena! You battle it out among 4 teams, fighting to gain the most treasure possible while surviving an onslaught on cannonballs, falling magma, skeletons and more. This is a nice change of pace to the usual aspects of the game, and should create for even more memorable experiences.
A Welcome Surprise
Xbox continues to grow its support for JRPG games, having special guest Shinji Hashimoto from Square Enix announce that Final Fantasy XIII is coming to Xbox Backward Compatibility next week. There’s a few more Final Fantasy titles that are coming as well, all coming with Xbox One X enhancements.
Both Ori and the Blind Forest Definitive Edition and Ori and the Will of the Wisps are coming to Xbox Game Pass. These beautiful water colored platform games are some of the best around. With a moving story, beautiful artwork and steller gameplay, these are games you do not want to miss out on.
More Zombie Slaying
Need a reason to get back into State of Decay 2? Well here you go! Zedhunter Update is a free DLC update, bringing with it more ways to kill zombies and survive. Free content updates are the best thing ever, just saying!
Forza Horizon 4: Fortune Island Expansion Announced
The first big expansion for Forza Horizon 4 has been announced, taking players to a new island.
Mouse + Keyboard For Xbox
The long awaited Mouse + Keyboard support for Xbox has been given more details. 14 games are going to support this feature at launch, with Fortnite leading the charge with Input Matchmaking. Input Matchmaking is when you only get matched with others of the same controller input. Controller vs. Controller, M+K vs. M+K and so on. Warframe, Warhammer: Vermintide 2 and more are helping shape up this new upcoming feature.
Spartans Need Only Apply
It’s only a few months away until the launch of Metro: Exodus, and we finally got a look at the beautiful collectors edition. This edition features an awesome hand paint statue, a steelbook and a few more goodies. Look out for Metro: Exodus at launch on Feb. 22nd!
You thought we were done with Xbox Game Pass? Think again. There are a total of 16 games coming to Xbox Game Pass soon, some later than others. PUBG, Hellblade and both Ori games only made up a small amount on top of other great game selections.
Icing On The Cake
To cap off a very informative X018 Inside Xbox event, Matt Booty took center stage for some very special announcments. Both Obsidian (Fallout: New Vegas, KOTOR II) and InExile Entertainment (Wasteland 2, Torment, The Bard’s Tale IV) have been acquired and are now apart of the Microsoft Studio family. Matt Booty stressed that both of these studios would stay separate, and work on their own unique projects. This heavily bolsters the RPG side for exclusive games, and makes for a very formidable first party studio lineup.
