The list of games that will make up the Google Stadia launch day lineup has just been released and those of you who are ready to try out the streaming service will have a dozen games to sink your teeth into. It looks like a fairly diverse list at first glance but closer scrutiny definitely shows a significant number of open world games. Check out the list below:
If for some reason you cannot see the above image, you can see the list in text format here:
As you can see, the Tomb Raider franchise makes up 25% of the Stadia launch day lineup. In fact, with the exception of GYLT – a timed Stadia exclusive game developed by Tequila Works – is the only title on this list that hasn’t already been made available on other platforms. After all, Tomb Raider: Definitive Edition was released well over six years ago. To be fair, you could argue that Google is expecting Stadia’s reception to be more of a slow burn instead of a smashing overnight success. However, if Stadia is going to succeed then it will need a lot more in its corner than this list. How many gamers do you think will be clamoring to play Samurai Shodown over a streaming connection?
Google promises that more games will be added to the Stadia service. At launch Stadia will cost $9.99 USD per month and that enables you to stream your games in 4K resolution. There will also be a handful of titles that will be free with your paid subscription like Destiny 2 but consumers will end up having to purchase most of their games. Stadia will offer a free tier next year which will allow you to stream your purchased games in 1080p resolution. That is quite a confusing pitch to make to customers alongside an underwhelming list of games.
