Late yesterday, NPD group employee Mat Piscatella released and detailed info on the February 2018 NPD numbers, detailing February’s hottest selling software in the United States. There are definitely some interesting trends to be seen so let’s break it down.
The details of the February 2018 NPD numbers:
Monster Hunter World continues to lead software sales and still retains the title of the best selling game of 2018 so far. This has helped Capcom retain its spot as the top-selling publisher of 2018, while Nintendo leads the charge as the top-earning publisher of February. This also leads to Mario Kart 8 being the best-selling software on the Switch this month for the first time since May 2017.
Xbox and PlaystationÂ
Shadow of the Colossus enjoys success as the second-most purchased game on the PlayStation platform. While on the Xbox side of things, PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds, despite the resounding success of Fortnite, continues to move units. Kingdom Come: Deliverance seems to have been a resounding hit for a new IP, taking the number 4 spot on Xbox One and number 8 spot on the PlayStation 4.
Nintendo Switch and 3DS
The big 3 of Nintendo, (Mario Kart, Zelda, and Super Mario Oddessy) continue to dominate Switch software sales. Meanwhile, on the 3DS Pokémon still reigns supreme, with Radian Historia cracking the top 3. The Nintendo Switch has become the fastest install base console in the first 12 months in the history of gaming. That is a huge turn around, considering Nintendo’s poor sales numbers from the Wii U. PlayStation continued putting up impressive numbers, as the PS4 was the highest selling console of the month.
