So, if you hadn’t been paying attention Lucasfilm and Disney have scheduled one new Star Wars film for every year till 2020. That’s a hell of a lot of Star Wars!
Anyway, at D23 this weekend it was revealed that the first Star Wars Anthology film, Star Wars: Rogue One, had begun principle photography. Along with this the entire main cast was confirmed and major crew members were also named. The cast is certainly star-studded! Check it listed below:
- Felicity Jones – Nominated for an Academy Award in 2015 for The Theory of Everything (The Theory of Everything, The Amazing Spider-Man 2)
- Diego Luna – (Elysium, Milk)
- Ben Mendelsohn – Emmy nominated in 2015 for Bloodlines (Bloodlines, The Dark Knight Rises, Slow West)
- Donnie Yen – Chinese action star and multiple award winner (Blade II, Shanghai Knights)
- Alan Tudyk – ‘That spaceship pilot’ (Firefly, Con Man, Wreck It Ralph, 42)
- Jiang Wen – (Let the Bullets Fly, Devils on the Doorstep)
- Forest Whitaker – Won Academy Award for The Last King of Scotland (The Last King of Scotland, The Butler, Southpaw)
- Riz Ahmed – Nominated for multiple award for Best Supporting Actor for his role in Nightcrawler
- Mads Mikkelsen – Won Cannes Film Festival Award for Best Actor in The Hunt (Hannibal, Casino Royale, The Hunt)
Major crew members were also announced at the conference:
- Gareth Edwards is directing (Godzilla, Monsters)
- Kathleen Kennedy producing (Current head of Lucasfilm, Lincoln, The Jurassic Park franchise)
- John Knoll who had the original idea for the movie, and has worked extensively with Star Wars films before, will be on board for the visual effects ( Star Trek, Star Wars, Pacific Rim, Pirates of the Caribbean)
- Rob Inch will be chief stunt co-ordinator (World War Z, Marvel’s Captain America: The First Avenger)
The film tells the story of the resistance fighters who stole the plans of the Death Star prior to Star Wars Episode IV: A New Hope. The upcoming Episode VII, directed y J.J.
