The new game subscription service from Microsoft is now available for Gold subscribers and best of all, it won’t cost you anything to try it out. It’s called Xbox Game Pass and it is worth checking out – especially with a 14-day free trial. Those of you who do not subscribe to Gold can try the service on June 1st.
Xbox Game Pass offers 100 video games from the Xbox 360 and Xbox One libraries for $9.99 per month. This is not a streaming service; these games are downloaded to your hard drive and can be played offline. Yes, you can download every single title from the Game Pass library to your hard drive if you wanted to.
So far the selection of games appears to be quite diverse. Halo 5: Guardians and Gears of War: Ultimate Edition are strong attractions but there are also indie games like Terraria, sports games, fighting games and even retro fans can enjoy titles like Sega Vintage Collection: Streets of Rage or Mega Man Legacy Collection.
If you end up deciding that you want to buy a title from the Game Pass library, you can get it for a 20% discount and a 10% discount on its DLC so long as the game is available in the program. You can expect some games to be swapped out for new titles on a monthly basis. There is even the possibility of Game Pass eventually having its own lineup of exclusive games in the future.
