Twisted Pixel Leaves Microsoft

Microsoft Studio’s already small group of first party developers grew even smaller today as Twisted Pixel has announced that they have left Microsoft.

Twisted Pixel produced some of Xbox Live Arcade’s more popular games such as ‘Splosion Man and The Maw. Microsoft bought the small studio back in 2011. Josh Bear from Twisted Pixel states that “we’ve always kept a background dialog open with them about the idea of returning to an independent studio model if the timing made sense for us.”
One of Twisted Pixel’s Executive Producer, Bill Muehl, said that “This transition has been in the works for a few months, with both parties working together to lay the groundwork for us to spin out and become independent again. We’re looking forward to the new relationships and platforms this will open up to us and continuing our strong partnership with Microsoft on future titles for their platforms.”

Twisted Pixel’s latest game Lococycle was widely panned; however head of Xbox, Phil Spencer, was hyping up their new game saying that it will be their biggest game yet.

It is sad for Xbox fans to lose another source of exclusive games, but let’s wish Twisted Pixel the best in their upcoming endeavors.
