Thanks to Jason for taking the reigns last weekend on the box office recap. This weekend we see Toy Story 4 dominating the box office. The movie opened with $114 million domestically and $120 million in the foreign market. Right now Toy Story 4 is sitting at $238 million world-wide in it’s first weekend at the box office.
The Child’s Play remake grossed an estimated $14 million this weekend. We all had hopes here that the movie would do a little better. Right now the Summer movie season is just not doing that great. It didn’t help that Avengers: Endgame made well over $2 billion at the box office. In fact the movie has now passed Avatar as the highest grossing movie of all time. Dark Phoenix has made so little that it will be moving out of 1,600 theaters, don’t expect this movie to be breaking many records. We just have to wait and see if some more of the movies that will be released this Summer can bring in some money.
Weekend Top Three
3. Aladdin $12.2 million
2. Child’s Play $14 million
1. Toy Story 4 $118 million
Next week the horror movie Annabelle Comes Home is going to be released. These movies are always making money. Expect that movie too easily find a spot in the top three. Also next weekend viewers will get to experience the movie Yesterday. Hopefully you can find time this week to go out and enjoy a movie at your local theater.
