Hey guys welcome to the Top 5 Comics for 4/05/7. We had a pretty great week back in April. Since the site has been in maintenance mode I thought it was best to catch you up on the past releases last month. I found it was really hard to pick only 5 from 12 comics. I think I made the right call. Lets Kick it.

5: X-Men: Gold (2017-) #1
The most recent X-Men story arcs haven’t been very hopeful. In fact they have been the opposite of hopeful. The current stories have revolved around dark themes or war against the Inhumans. X-Men #1 Gold written by Marc Guggenheim and drawn by Ardian Syaf shines a bright ray of hope. Marc writes Kitty Pryde as a significant leader who gives her team hope and inspiration. Hope that someday they can restore the public’s trust back into the X-Men. Overall X-Men Gold #1 is a great start to an X-Men series. It’s just a shame that this title got a ton of exposure and no one mention how good the story is.

4: Superman (2016-) #20
Twenty issues in and the Superman (2016-) series written by Patrick Gleason & Peter J Tomasi is still going strong. There are so many reasons why this book keeps landing on My Top 5 Conics list every other week. The artwork is beautiful to look at, the story arcs thus far have been great, and this series captures the Kent family brilliantly. The thing I love above all else is how Patrick and Peter write the Kent family and Wayne family to be close friends.This is something that we haven’t seen too this extent in the past. Superman (2016-) #20 is the perfect example of this because we see Batman and Robin just pop up in Clark’s barn to check on Jon.
Plot Synopsis – “Superman black” part one! A “Superman Reborn Aftermath” tie-in! As the smoke clears the Kents are faced with leaving Hamilton to go back to Metropolis, but someone or something doesn’t want them to leave! Batman and Robin discover something is mysteriously wrong with the son of Superman—he’s losing his powers!

3: Nightwing (2016)-) #18
“Nightwing Must Die” part three takes the ongoing 2016 Nightwing series written by Tim Seeley into a darker direction. While Dick and Damian break into the Metamorphoses Fine Art Gallery to save Shawn Tsang from Professor Pyg, they left Deathwing unguarded. Deathwing strangled Dinesh Babar (Robintron) to death. That wouldn’t been such a shock if Dinesh was just an ordinary Dolltron, but this kid had overcame Pyg’s brainwashing process and remembered that he was Dinesh Babar and was helping Nightwing and Robin get back Shawn.
That would have been an amazing issue if it ended after Nightwing and Robin rescued Shawn. Tim raised the bar a few more notches. In the last few pages, Robin tries to confront Deathwing, Yet Deathwing shoots him in the torso stopping him right in his tracks. Deathwing than picks Robin up and walks away with him. When Shawn and Dick’s reuion ends, Dick looks for Robin only to find Robintron’s body. Then Nightwing asked Pyg what was going on, Pyg answered him telling that he was working for Dr. Hurt. Like many other people I was blown away by this issue!
Plot Synopsis – “Nightwing Must Die” part three! Someone Dick loves is being held by one of the deranged foes of his past: Professor Pyg! Nightwing and Robin race to stop Pyg’s attack, but an even darker villain may be waiting for them in the aftermath…

2: Iron Fist (2017-) #2
So if you guys didn’t know Marvel is celebrating their new Iron Fist television show that just launched on Netflix by also launching a brand new Iron Fist series for K’un – Lun’s champion. Ed Brisson is writing the series, and it’s being drawn by Mike Perkins. In issue two the Iron Fist restores powers by absorbing The Eel of Blessed Waters’s chi which replenished his own chi. In the next issue Danny is going to go up against The Rat of 12 Plagues in round 2 of the tournament. There are two things that I loved about the Iron Fist series thus far.
Iron Fist is unlike any other comic series that I’m reading, out of the 34 comics that I’m currently reading not one is like Iron Fist. No other superhero fights like Iron Fist or is the setting is a tournament. It just has a uniqueness about it, even the artwork is different from a lot of other titles.
The next reason why I love Iron Fist is minuscule, but I’m going to mention it anyway. In the first pages, the story never stops for the credits page.
In almost every comic book the credit page interrupts the story. For Iron Fist it’s nothing but storytelling. This trickery is a clever way to force the reader to read the credits while also moving the story along.

1: Green Lanterns (2016-) #20
Green Lanterns #20 fuels my love for this series. It explains more of Neal Emerson backstory and why he is willing to go so far for his big brother, as well as parallels the same situation that Simon Baz is facing with Nazir. Throughout this series Sam Humphries does a great job making the villains of Green Lanterns as relatable as possible, with the exception of Atrocitus. You always know exactly what the villains are feeling and why they do the horrible things that they do. Plus Simon and Jessica and the supportive cast are likable and interesting to say the least.
Plot Synopsis – “THE GREEN IMPURITY” part two! Following the events of JUSTICE LEAGUE VS. SUICIDE SQUAD, Polaris strikes! The two Earth Green Lanterns are caught between the two warring personalities of the Master of Magnetism.
