TiCGN Box Office Recap: Spider-Man Takes the Weekend From the Minions

Last weekend I was unable to write the recap. Being in Reno with the wife hampered that ability. So this weekend I’m back and a new movie has taken the top spot. Well actually it is the sixth movie in the long running Spider-Man franchise. Yet this is the first Spider-Man movie set in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.

Spider-Man: Homecoming has taken this weekends box office. The movie has opened with an estimated $117 million this weekend. This movie takes place after the events of Captain America: Civil War as Peter Parker tries to live his life after fighting with and against the Avengers. Micheal Keaton plays the villain The Vulture while Robert Downey Jr. has an appearance as Tony Stark/Iron Man. Despicable Me 3 dropped down to second place while Baby Driver is sitting at third.

Weekend Top Five

5. Transformers: The Last Knight $6.3 million

4. Wonder Woman $10 million

3. Baby Driver $12.7 million

2. Despicable Me 3 $33 million

1. Spider-Man: Homecoming $117 million

The rest of the summer movies that have been released have been slowly raking in at the box office. Wonder Woman is closing in on $800 million worldwide while the fifth Transformers movie inches towards the $500 million mark. Next weekend War for the Planet of the Apes and Wish Upon will both be coming out.  Don’t forget to check out TiCGN’s review of Spider-Man: Homecoming by clicking this link.
