This weekend, the animated film
The Grinch took the top spot at the box office. Yet this news isn’t something that gets me excited. News of how well
Venom did overseas is what got me excited. The movie
Venom has opened in China with the second-highest super hero movie behind
Avengers: Infinity War.
Venom now sits at $673 million worldwide. It can now easily top $700 million, a feat that I wasn’t thinking the movie would be able to accomplish.
The three movies that where released this weekend didn’t even come close to the opening weekend
Venom had in China.
Overlord grossed an estimated $10.1 million while
The Girl in the Spiders Web grossed $8 million.
Bohemian Rhapsody grossed $30.8 million as it climbs to $300 million world-wide. Sadly, it seems that
Overlord was scheduled for release too late in the year. The zombie-themed WW2 horror movie would likely have done much better in the month of October.
Weekend Top Five
5.
The Girl in the Spiders Web $8 million
4.
The Nutcrack and the Four Realms $9.5 million
3.
Overlord $10.1
2.
Bohemian Rhapsody $30.8 million
1.
The Grinch $66 million
Even though
Widows and
Instant Family are both out next weekend neither will take the top spot. The Harry Potter prequel
Fantastic Beasts 2 is coming out, which will easily take the top spot for the rest of November. The only real competition later in the month is
Creed 2 and the second
Wreck-It Ralph movie.
