Grand Theft Auto publisher Take-Two Interactive has taken more action against the game’s modding community by ordering that the Force Hax cheat menu and Menyoo be withdrawn from the market. The action comes only days after the publisher issued a cease and desist order against the popular modding tool OpenIV.
The main issue Take-Two seems to have with both Force Hax and Menyoo is that they allow players to gain an unfair advantage within Grand Theft Auto’s online mode which strictly implements a no cheating policy. The mods allow players to activate a variety of cheats, from increased money and altered weapons to having the ability to insta-kill players remotely. Both mods claim to ‘bypass latest Rockstar anti-cheat programming’ Â but require users to pay either a weekly or monthly subscription costing up to $31.99 for three months of use.
Both Sites have now been taken down and display this message:
“After discussions with Take-Two Interactive, effective immediately we are ceasing all maintenance, development and distribution of the Force Hax [and Menyoo] cheat menu services. We will be donating all proceeds to charity and we apologize for any and all problems Force Hax services have caused to the Grand Theft Auto Online community.”
In the case of OpenIV, its creators took the measures necessary to ensure that their modding tool couldn’t be used for illicit activity within Grand Theft Auto’s Online mode. As a result, there has been extreme backlash against the publisher with players taking to Steam to relay their feelings about the company’s decision. Since they issued their cease and desist action against OpenIV, almost 40,000 negative reviews have been left on the game’s steam page which has managed to drop the game’s overall score down to ‘mixed’.
