It has been over thirty years since the original Super Mario Bros. and over the decades the series has brought us some fantastic platforming action for play at home and on the go. Nintendo Switch owners will once again have the opportunity to face off against Bowser in Super Mario Odyssey.
Mario games often revolve around a theme or gimmick and this time it’s hats. As you may recall from the January teaser trailer, Mario’s iconic cap has suddenly grown a pair of eyes. It turns out that it has been possessed by some sort of hat spirit. Before you roll your eyes, consider that Mario can now do some neat tricks with his hat such as tossing it several yards away and using it as a platform he can jump from to reach further heights.
Mario also has the ability to use his hat to possess other characters within the game. Koopa Troopas, Bullet Bills, even human NPCs or a Tyrannosaurus Rex can be controlled after Mario takes over.
There will also be new Amiibo figures for Mario, Peach and Bowser – all in wedding attire.
Super Mario Odyssey will be released on October 27th. Check out the trailer below:
