Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker tops box office

This past weekend Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker took over the top spot at the box office. The movie grossed an estimated $175 million in its opening weekend. It grossed an estimated $373 million worldwide, this movie is easily on its way to grossing over $500 million. Jason reviewed the movie which you can read here.

Cats had a dismal opening with $6 million in its first weekend. The movie was panned when the first trailer was released. It seems that negativity never stopped following that movie. It is easily the biggest flog of 2019. The movie’s budget was sitting at $95 million, which was before the studio behind the movie announced that update the visuals while the movie was in theaters. It seems like Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker really didn’t have any competition this weekend. Jumanji: The Next Level only grossed $26 million this weekend, the movies gross dropped over half from last weekend.

1. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker $175 million

The last set of movies that will be coming out in 2019 have no chance of taking down the most recent Star Wars movie at the box office. Those movies include the Adam Sandler film Uncut Gems, Little Women, and Spies in Disguise. What was your favorite movie this year? Let us know in the comment section below. Personally I think Joker was my top movie, even though it really is one of the darkest most disturbing movies I have seen.
