Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi Movie in the Works

Since Disney and Lucasfilm announced that there would be standalone movies alongside the new trilogy, there’s been a lot of talk of what or who could take centre stage in these spin-offs. Two were confirmed rather quickly: Rogue One, and the upcoming Han Solo movie (which has yet to receive a title). Now it looks like the third standalone movie is on the verge of confirmation. After rumours of a Yoda movie and a Boba Fett movie for what feels like years, it appears that Disney have decided to focus on a certain Jedi named Obi-Wan instead.

The Hollywood Reporter claims that a new standalone Star Wars movie will be an Obi-Wan Kenobi film. The Jedi Master has been played by Alec Guinness and Ewan McGregor and at least a portion of fans have been clamouring for McGregor to take on the role once again. McGregor’s performance is generally regarded as one of the best bits of the widely derided prequel trilogy, and in the past he has said he would be open to playing Obi-Wan once more.

However, at this early stage, THR claim there is no script — let alone any actors attached. One name, however, has been thrown up, and that is a director. Oscar-nominated director Stephen Daldry is reportedly in early talks to helm the movie. He’s a very capable director, having been nominated for his work on Billy Elliot and having most recently directed episodes for Netflix’s critical success, The Crown.
