This weekend Spider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse sat on top of the box office. The animated movie was a hit for both Sony Pictures and Marvel as it grossed an estimated $35 million domestically and currently sits at $56 million worldwide. For a Marvel animated movie that is just above and beyond what was expected of it.
The Mule actually did okay this weekend. It had a strong opening weekend with $17.2 million, which pushed it to beat out Mortal Engines. Speaking of Mortal Engines, the movie didn’t look that terrible in the trailer. It crashed with $7.5 million this weekend. Don’t expect to see that movie in the top ten next weekend either. Once Upon a Deadpool opened in less than 1,500 theaters and only grossed an estimated $2.5 million. Marvel should just stick with the original rating for any future Deadpool movie.
Weekend Top Five
5. Mortal Engines $7.5 million
4. Ralph Breaks the Internet $9.5 million
3. The Grinch $11.5 million
2. The Mule $17.2 million
1. Spider-Man: Into The Spider-Verse
This coming weekend is going to be huge for movie fans. We get Mary Poppins Returns on the 19th along with Aquaman and Bumblebee on the 21st. At this moment who knows what movie will take the top spot next weekend. I swear that this is the last time that I mention Venom. I’ve found a way to slide it into every article since its release back in October. Venom is now sitting as the fifth highest grossing movie in the world for 2018. Let that just sink in for a second as the Spider-Man villain almost took down the Incredibles 2 for the fourth spot. Well, I doubt that would have actually ever happened. As a fan of the character, I’m just happy to see that this movie will continue on in the future like Deadpool was able to do. The physical release of Venom takes place on the 18th as the digital version is already available to watch.
With a few more weekends left in the year let us know what your favorite movie of 2018 was. Post it on Twitter, Facebook, or even in the comment sections.
