Sony has published their financial results for Second Quarter 2018 (Q2 2018). Gaming revenue and growth in the PlayStation division are strong across the board. These financial results also bring the news that the quarter’s sales have seen PS4 sales cross 86 million lifetime units.
Here’s the highlights of Sony’s Q2 2018 results (via Benji-Sales on Twitter):Â
- 3.9 million PS4 units shipped during Q2 2018
- Gaming revenue is up 27%
- PS4 lifetime sales have crossed 86 million units
- Software sales are up year-over-year
Additionally, Sony’s sales forecast for PlayStation 4 in 2018 has been expanded from 16 million units to 17.5 million units.
Sony has a strong year for first-party software, with God of War and Marvel’s Spider-Man performing extremely well, being the second and third best-selling games of 2018 respectively. Sony recently changed their stance on cross-platform play beginning with Fortnite, as well as taking steps to address name changes. This kind of strong growth being paired with PR problems being addressed should be interesting leading into 2019.
