Respawn Entertainment To Be Acquired By Electronic Arts For Over $450 Million

The studio that brought us Titanfall will be acquired by Electronic Arts according to a recent announcement. EA is going to put up about $315 million in stock shares and cash and will also pay out a bonus that could be as much as $140 million. Respawn Entertainment is currently working on three titles. The first is a new entry for the Titanfall franchise while the second is set in the Star Wars universe. The third title is a VR game that has not yet been titled.

“[It] has come up from time to time. The question was, where we are in the industry, how do we take the next step in making bigger, better games. We see the need for bigger resources to make bigger games,” said Vince Zampella, CEO of Respawn Entertainment.

Patrick Soderlund, executive vice president of EA, agrees. ““The creative freedom is still here: DICE, BioWare, our studios have creative freedom and creative integrity. That’s what gets those studios to make great games.”

The developers who worked at Visceral Games may disagree but Soderlund stated that the new acquisition is not related to the shuttering of the former studio.
