Resident Evil 2 Has Shipped 3 Million Copies in Its First Week

The Resident Evil 2 remake just released a few days ago on January 25th, 2019, and it is already seeing great success. In a press release, Capcom confirmed that Resident Evil 2 has shipped 3 million copies in its first week. While these copies are shipped and not sold through, it still bodes very well this early after release.

Additionally, Capcom also announced that Resident Evil 7: Biohazard has sold over 6 million copies as of December 31st, 2018.

Further, with Resident Evil 7 biohazard (released in January 2017) having now gone on to sell a cumulative 6 million units*, Capcom looks to achieve similar, long-term sales for Resident Evil 2 as well.

They also confirmed that the total sales of the Resident Evil franchise have crossed 88 million units:

The Resident Evil franchise features survival horror games in which players utilize a variety of weapons and other items to escape terrifying situations. Cumulative sales of the games in the series now total 88 million units* since the first title debuted in 1996. More than 20 years later, continuous support from the passionate fan base across the globe makes it Capcom’s flagship game series.

Resident Evil 2 has free DLC coming soon, in the form of The Ghost Survivors update, which will release on February 15th, 2019. Resident Evil 2 is available on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC.
