Red Dead Redemption Sales Up Nearly 5000% On Amazon Following BC Announcement

Earlier this week it was announced that the critically acclaimed Western game Red Dead Redemption would be playable on Xbox One via the backwards compatibility feature. In case you missed it, the following statement comes from Rockstar Games:

“Today we’re happy to announce that Red Dead Redemption will be released as part of Microsoft’s Xbox One Backward Compatibility program this coming Friday, July 8th.”

To say the news was met enthusiastically would be an understatement. Online retailer Amazon shows that sales for the Game of the Year edition of Red Redemption shot up over 4700% as of this writing. The Platinum Hits version of the game also saw a healthy spike in sales.

As of now the Game of the Year edition is enjoying a sales rank of 30 (up from its previous rank of 1,348). The Platinum Hits version is currently ranked 48th.

Red Dead Redemption is not the only game to see a massive boost in sales thanks to the Xbox One backwards compatibility feature. Call of Duty: Black Ops saw a notable sales increase back in May following that game’s addition to the Xbox One library.

Backwards Compatability on Xbox One was first announced during Microsoft’s E3 2015 press conference and officially launched during the holiday season. There are well over 200 titles in the backwards compatibility library according to a wiki on IGN.
