Ever since it was first teased, Red Dead Redemption 2 has been an massively anticipated game for gamers everywhere. When it finally released on October 26th, 2018, there was little doubt it would sell incredibly well. According to Business Wire, Red Dead Redemption 2 has the biggest entertainment weekend opening of all time, with over $725 million in launch sales.
Previous Rockstar Games title Grand Theft Auto V remains the owner of the biggest entertainment launch of all time, at $1 billion in launch sales (over a three day period). It launched on a Tuesday however, keeping it from holding the record of biggest entertainment weekend opening.
Additionally, Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that Red Dead Redemption 2 had set the highest-ever pre-orders on PSN and the highest launch sales of all time for a game on PSN.
Achieving the biggest entertainment weekend opening of all time, the second-biggest entertainment launch of all time and the highest launch sales on PSN of all time is quite a collection of feats. Red Dead Redemption 2 is selling extremely well and has resonated with critics, gaining a 97 on Metacritic and Opencritic.
