Production has begun for Fast & Furious 9

It turns out that Fast & Furious 9 is already in production according to a tweet from actress Nathalie Emmanuel. In fact, today marks the first day of shooting. As you may recall, Emmanuel plays Ramsey, the hacker who joined the cast back in Furious 7. You can have a look at Emmanuel’s announcement via Twitter below:

Is it just me or do the emojis in her tweet represent the team from the Fast & Furious movies? The first two would have to be Dominic Toretto and Letty, played by Vin Diesel and Michelle Rodriguez respectively. The third emoji is probably Tyrese Gibson who will reprise his role as Roman and the fourth head represents Mia – Dominic’s sister and Brian’s girlfriend. She was played by Jordana Brewster and was not in the last film of the franchise, Fate of the Furious. Mia has been confirmed to be in Furious 9.

You will not see Dwayne Johnson this time around but the actor has not completely abandoned the Furious universe. You will find him alongside Jason Statham in the upcoming spinoff flick, Hobbs & Shaw.

Replacing Dwayne Johnson will be John Cena (yes, THAT Cena). We don’t know what role he will play in the film yet. Justin Lin is serving as director.

Another notable change is the fact that the series has added a female writer to the staff due to the insistence of actress Michelle Rodriguez.

Fast & Furious 9 will be released on May 22nd, 2020.
