We know that Microsoft is planning to launch its Xbox game streaming service sometime next year but there are naturally some questions about how we will be able to control our characters in the midst of all that on-screen action -particularly on mobile devices such as your smartphone. Images posted on Xbox Wire show what looks like a regular controller attached to some kind of device that holds your phone. That may work well enough but carrying a full sized Xbox One controller around with you can get tiresome. It seems that Microsoft has also been toying around with alternative controller designs so you won’t have to sacrifice control for portability. Pictures of an Xbox mobile controller prototype have surfaced and they give us a better idea of how we will be able to play our games on tablets or phones next year.
This is a fully functional controller that can presumably work with your Xbox One console just like a stock controller. The shoulder bumpers and triggers are replaced by buttons on the back of the device. The left and right sides of the controller can be attached to a central charging dock (think about how the Nintendo Switch JoyCons slide on and off of a Pro controller). The two sides of the controller can then be attached to your phone or tablet which gives you a handheld gaming experience. There are three different sizes of grips that can be attached; you will be free to choose whichever side works best for the size of your screen and what feels the most comfortable in your hands. Both sides of the controller can be used without the grips. I would imagine that the controller could also be used in your hands while having your phone or tablet propped up on a table in front of you but that is just speculation at this point.
We will be sure to let you know as soon as the Xbox mobile controller is revealed.
