RPG lovers who own a Nintendo Switch have probably sunk dozens (hundreds?) of hours into Octopath Traveler – a 2D roleplaying game that has often been described as a love letter to Final Fantasy. If you loved your time with the game then we have some great news for you. Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent is an official prequel that is set on the continent of Ossterra a few years before the first adventure.
Surprisingly enough, the prequel will not be released for Nintendo’s hybrid console. You will have to play this one on your Android or iOS devices. The gameplay will remain mostly faithful to what you experienced in the original game but movement will be drastically simplified. Up to eight characters can engage in battles this time around and new characters will be periodically added. Square Enix is also planning to add new story content via future updates.
Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent will be a free-to-play title and as usual for a mobile title – there will be optional microtransactions. Interestingly enough, this game will be a single player campaign – there are no multiplayer modes whatsoever. (Or at least there will be none at launch).
The game will launch later this year. In the meantime, check out the trailer below and let us know what you think of Octopath Traveler headed to mobile devices.
