October 2018 NPD: Black Ops 4 Tops the Charts with Red Dead Redemption 2 Right Behind

The October 2018 NPD results are in, thanks to NPD analyst Mat Piscatella and the team at VentureBeat. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 topped the charts, followed closely by Red Dead Redemption 2 which only had nine days of reported sales. Call of Duty: Black Ops 4 is now the bestselling game of 2018, while Red Dead Redemption 2 is now the second bestselling game of 2018. Another standout arrival was Soulcalibur VI, which debuted at number six on the charts.

The PlayStation 4 was the best-selling hardware for the month of October 2018. The PlayStation 4 had an incredibly strong month, with an all-time October high in unit sales for the platform since the PlayStation 2 in 2002.

Here’s the hardware numbers for October 2018:

• Total: $1.545 billion (up 73 percent from $894 million in October 2017)
• Hardware: $300 million (up 26 percent from $238 million)
• PC and console software: $965 million (up 104 percent from $473 million)
• Accessories: $280 million (up 54 percent from $182 million)

The hardware numbers compared to 2017:

• Total: $10.52 billion (up 21 percent from $8.67 billion in 2017 year to date)
• Hardware: $2.72 billion (up 19 percent from $2.29 billion)
• PC and console software: $4.84 billion (up 16 percent from $4.18 billion)
• Accessories: $2.96 billion (up 35 percent from $2.19 billion)
