Microsoft has been focused on improving their first-party lineup over the last several months, acquiring studios like Obsidian Entertainment and Playground Games. They’ve also started one new studio from the ground up, The Initiative. Led by Darrell Gallagher, The Initiative has been hiring several talented developers, with veteran developers from Rockstar Games, Sony Santa Monica, Insomniac Games, Crystal Dynamics and more. It looks like they’ve picked up another talented developer, as Justin Walters has joined The Initiative.
Justin Walters has joined the studio as a Senior Environment Artist. Previously, he worked as Avalanche as a Senior Environment Artist at Avalanche on Just Cause 4. He’s also worked on games like Star Wars Battlefront 2, Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered, DOOM, Halo: The Master Chief Collection and Middle-earth: Shadow of Mordor. That’s certainly a broad range of visual designs.

Based in Santa Monica, California in the USA, it’s still early days for this new team. With that said, it’s interesting getting insight as the studio is put together, one senior developer after another. It’s not often we get to see teams come together like from the start and it is an intriguing, exciting process.
