The concept of streaming video games straight to our televisions took a small step forward today with the release of Minecraft: Story Mode on Netflix. Subscribers can play through season one for no extra charge. Right now the first three episodes of season one are available and the final two episodes will be playable on December 5th.
If you have not yet played Minecraft: Story Mode, rest easy. You do not need twitch reflexes to play it. This game is heavily based on the story of Jessie and his friends who live within a Minecraft world. You make choices throughout the game that will impact your experience through the story. Think of it as choosing your own adventure with some fantastic voice actors bringing their respective characters to life. We can only hope that this will be the first of many video games that will be included on Netflix.
On a sadder note, this game is one of only two titles from Telltale Games that proved profitable for the studio. The other was The Walking Dead: Season One. Most of the staff at Telltale Games has been laid off and the future of the studio is questionable at best.
