Mass Effect Andromeda will challenge your Moral Compass

EA recently sent out a marketing survey asking how gamers would react to it’s upcoming game Mass Effect Andromeda. According to the survey, which asked several questions on how gamers would feel about how the game is being marketed towards them, the game would play off in the Andromeda galaxy. The gamer will be in charge of a team of military scientists exploring the galaxy. You will be charged with setting up colonies in the unexplored galaxy.

Mass Effect: Andromeda takes players to the Andromeda galaxy, far beyond the Milky Way, where players will lead the fight for a new home in hostile territory – where WE are the aliens – opposed by a deadly indigenous race bent on stopping us. Experience the freedom to traverse and explore a planet-dense but seamless open-world galaxy, rich with discovery. Play as the leader of a squad of military-trained experts in an intense third-person shooter, with deep progression and customisation systems. This is the story of humanity’s next chapter, and player choices throughout the game will ultimately determine our survival in the Andromeda galaxy.

The interesting part about this is that you’ll be in the seat of the ‘invading aliens’ trying to colonize planets which are inhabited by the natives. Apparently the natives aren’t happy about this and have decided to retaliate against the incoming invasion.

It’s interesting how EA have characterized the natives as ‘deadly’. It’s clear that the game would challenge current perceptions of ‘colonizers’ and will also turn your moral compass on its head. It’s also an interesting twist on the usual ‘we versus them’ gameplay mechanic where we’re always attacked by other alien invaders. It will put things into a different perspective and it’s a welcome change.

Mass Effect Andromeda is expected in early 2017, and will launch on Xbox One and other platforms. Mass Effect 1 is currently available on Xbox One via Backwards Compatibility.
