Marvel Producing a New Warriors TV Show for Freeform

Marvel have a lot of plates spinning at the moment, but clearly they are not content and are attempting one more. Alongside their already stacked television schedule, Marvel and Freeform are teaming up to bring a New Warriors adaptation to the screen. Excitingly, this new show will also see fan-favourite Squirrel Girl join the six-person team. Here’s the official synopsis Marvel released regarding the upcoming project:

“Marvel’s New Warriors” is about six young people with powers living and working together.  With powers and abilities on the opposite end of the spectrum of The Avengers, the New Warriors want to make a difference in the world… Even if the world isn’t ready.  Not quite super, not yet heroes, “Marvel’s New Warriors” is about that time in your life when you first enter adulthood and feel like you can do everything and nothing at once — except in this world, bad guys can be as terrifying as bad dates.

What is interesting to note is that Marvel is heading in a new direction with this show. There will be ten thirty minute episodes and it will be primarily a comedy. The focus on young heroes and the trials and tribulations of growing up show that Marvel are really being ambitious in their projects when they could just be safe and hit the Avengers button over and over until it stops making money. It’s great to see the billion-dollar company still taking risks (or at least whatever can constitute a risk for such a mammoth organisation).

There is no news yet on the casting for the new show, although fans have already been throwing up dream casting options. Jeph Loeb and Jim Chory will serve as Executive Producers on the series.

This new show will join the previously announced Cloak and Dagger series coming to Freeform too. That will also be receiving a ten-episode season.
