The most mysterious of the new characters to debut in Killer Instinct Season 3 is arguably Mira, the vampiric twin sister of Maya with a flair for dramatic fashion. A new online novella, Shadow Lords explores the tragic circumstances that lead to Mira’s fate as one of the undead. The story was written by Killer Instinct’s narrative designer, Noble Smith, who is an accomplished author and playwright. As an added treat, the novella includes original illustrations from Patrick Shettlesworth, one of the talented artists at Microsoft Games Studios.
While the story is mostly focused on Mira, fellow newcomers Tusk and Kim-Wu also appear in the novella. The narrative of Killer Instinct Season 3 is closely tied to the events of Shadow Lords. “The rivalries and conflicts we introduce in the story will continue in the game’s campaign mode—and we can’t wait for fans to play what we have planned,” Smith said.
Chapter 1 of Shadow Lords can be read for free here. New chapters will be published online every Friday.
It is great to see the lore of Killer Instinct expand beyond the game. What do you think of the first chapter? Let me know in the comments section.
