To the delight of many gamers, Fallout 4 was discovered to be free on the Xbox Live store yesterday. Unfortunately, this short lived bliss came crashing down when Live members received a message from Xbox:
“Our pricing error on Fallout 4 has been fixed and your free download will no longer work. For the inconvenience we will deposit $10 by the end of June in your Microsoft Account.”
Sources speculated that this glitch was not a glitch at all, but rather a failed attempt at a free trial of the game much like EA Access 10 Hour trial with games like Mirror’s Edge Catalyst and other games in it’s Vault. Sadly this wishful thinking was debunked as soon as the error message went live today. Despite the error message a few verified accounts remain in control of their digital copies so far leading to speculation that users will remain in control of the game until the $10 is deposited. As far as apologetic efforts go however, $10 dollars for downloading a game we couldn’t play anyway isn’t such a bad thing. But for broke gamers like me, we will one day own Fallout 4, but today is not that day.
