Evolve, a game that appeared in 2015 to have the potential to become the Left 4 Dead of this generation. Unfortunately it fell short due to problems in gameplay delivery, balancing and general lack of variety in content. After a lackluster year and dwindling player numbers, Evolve Stage 2 the free to play version of the game launched on PC in 2016, only to suffer the same eventual fate as player numbers dwindled hitting record lows for the game.
Evolve’s servers are closing down:
With all this information it comes as no surprise that publisher 2K announced today, that as of September 3rd, dedicated servers for the game on PC and console will be shut down for good. People who have purchased Evolve will still be able to play the game, however, but it will be on peer-to-peer multiplayer. However, ranked games, leaderboards and the in-game store will be shut down with these servers in September. 2K will no longer accept virtual currency purchases as of July 2, and the servers will officially be shut down for good on September 3rd. PC gamers should also note that you will no longer be able to play Evolve Stage 2, once the servers shut down as it will be pulled from the store. However, if you bought the game on PC before the game went free to play you will still be able to play the title.
Evolve, like other games such as Lawbreakers which comes to mind more recently, while awesome in concept, unfortunately missed the mark with their main audience. It is sad to see Evolve slowly fade away even more, but it should surprise no one, as the average amount of concurrent players this month on PC was 270 while the highest the player count has reached in the past year is 848.
