Advance ticket orders for Solo: A Star Wars Story went up for sale yesterday and according to Fandango, they are going even faster than the Millenium Falcon on the Kessell Run. In fact, Solo advance tickets are among the highest we have seen for the year to date. Ticket sales have not quite reached the level of Avengers: Infinity War but they are moving about twice as fast as they did for Black Panther.
This news could be seen as somewhat surprising as the movie was thought to be a very troubled production along with the mixed fan reception of Star Wars: The Last Jedi. We didn’t even get to see a trailer for Solo until February – a little over three months until the film’s box office release. Now it seems that the movie could possibly break box office records for a Memorial Day debut.
Keep in mind that these are just early ticket sales. We won’t be able to tell just yet how well the movie will ultimately perform at the box office and more importantly – how successful the accompanying merchandise sales might be. With that said, it looks like the film won’t quite be the box office bomb that some skeptics were anticipating. After all, you should never tell Han the odds.
I myself have already ordered early tickets for an early showing on Thursday, May 24th. I will be sure to share my thoughts here on The Inner Circle.
