At long last fans of EA’s Skate franchise can sigh in relief. The publisher announced during their EA Play event on Thursday that a new game in the much-missed skateboarding series is happening.

Skate directors Deran Chung and Cuz Parry had a message for fans; “We’re Back!“. The announcement was brief but was exactly what the fanbase has been clamoring for. The news of this project comes just a month after Activision shared that a remaster of Tony Hawk’s Pro Skater 1 + 2 would be releasing in September.
With many indie studios trying their hands at realistic skating sims, it’s interesting how a genre can shift from having zero prospects to several heavy hitters on the docket in just a few years.
Skate was tremendously popular during its time in the skateboarding sim spotlight, with all three titles earning an 80 or above on Metacritic. It’s no wonder that hardcore fans of the series have been so vocal about wanting the series back. The quality of the franchise compounded with the overall lack of any decent skating sims over the last decade or so really must’ve forced EA’s hand when fans began speaking up about wanting that coveted fourth entry.
