Doom Eternal Gameplay Revealed at QuakeCon 2018

After its reveal at the Bethesda E3 2018 conference, Doom Eternal gameplay has finally been revealed at QuakeCon 2018!

Here’s our first look at some Doom Eternal gameplay!

For the start of the Doom Eternal presentation, skip to the 1:10:28 mark, or for the start of the gameplay section, skip to 1:16:21.

The gameplay shown featured new traversal options, including a grappling hook. Naturally, there’s also more methods for disposing of demons, like new weapons, a shoulder-mounted flamethrower, a massive Predator-like wristblade and more.

Doom Eternal features twice as many enemies, with returning favorites from past games such as the Arachnatron, as well as entirely new foes to shoot, rend, rip and tear. The brutal new gameplay shows Hell on Earth, as the Doom Slayer fights his way through legions of demons. All the while, it’s evident that Doom Eternal has a much deeper story, with richer lore that the developers refer to as a “Doom Universe.” They also confirmed that Doom Eternal is running on iD Tech 7, which allows for ten times as much geometric detail.

That’s not all though. Players can now control demons and form Slayer-hunting parties that attack another player during their campaign. We also got to see gameplay in entirely new areas, like Phobos, where the Doom Slayer saw other humans alive for a change, as well as a massive anti-air gun called the BFG 10,000.

I’m a huge fan of the 2016 Doom, so let it suffice to say that Doom Eternal looks absolutely insane and incredible. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. We don’t have a release date at this point, which means it’s likely going to be released in late 2019.
