The upcoming big screen adaptation of Ubisoft’s open world stealth action game, Assassin’s Creed, has added Ariane Labed to a growing list of cast members. Deadline reports that Labed (The Lobster), has been added to the movie. She is set to star in the highly anticipated movie alongside Michael Fassbender (X-Men: First Class, Macbeth) and his ‘Macbeth’ co-star and Academy Award winner Marion Cotillard(La Vie en Rose, The Dark Knight Rises).
Labed will play the role that Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina) was in talks for before Vikander had to pass on the role due to scheduling conflicts. Vikander is set to star in the upcoming Bourne 5 movie with Matt Damon. The movie is being directed by Justin Kurzel (Macbeth) and Fassbender is also a producer on the project. Fans of the Ubisoft game were delighted when it was announced that a movie was being made. Assassin’s Creed games have been set in historic times and despite the unfortunate events of its last released title ‘Unity’, the richness of history in the game coupled with the cultural icons and locations makes it a promising choice for movie adaptation.
Little is known about the plot of the Assassin’s Creed movie, other than the fact, that it will be an original story and not a direct adaption of any of the games so far. There were rumors that surfaced claiming that it would be set during the Spanish Inquisition, but as of this article, that rumor hasn’t been confirmed. Michael Leslie penned the original script which has been rewritten by Adam Cooper and Bill Collage.
New Regency is co-producing the movie with Ubisoft Motion Pictures and filming is set to begin in September with a theatrical release on December 21, 2016.
