It is that time of the month again, it is time to dive into the April 2018 NPD numbers for information on hardware and software sales in the gaming industry. These numbers come via Mat Piscatella, US Video Games Industry Analyst and member of The NPD Group.
April 2018 saw 18% growth across hardware, software, accessories and game cards. When compared to last year, we see a growth from $699m million up to $823m. Gains appeared in all categories of spending.
Console Sales
God of War finding huge success lead to a dominant showing for the PlayStation 4 as it continues to hold the title of best-selling hardware platform year to date. The PlayStation 4 broke a record previously held by the Nintendo Wii in 2009 selling the most hardware in April. Hardware spending overall increased by 14% which sees it rise to $1.2B with Xbox One, Playstation 4 and devices like the SNES Classic driving this growth.
