For the past few weeks I have not been able to produce my weekly box office recap article. I apologize for that, given the fact that we are in the middle of the Summer movie season it was difficult for me to realize that these past few weeks have been awful for movie fans. Hotel Transylvania 3 was released and took the top spot its weekend and now another sequel during a slow weekend has taken the top spot.
The Denzel Washington movie The The Equalizer 2 took the top spot with an estimated $35.8 million. Mama Mia 2 was in second place with $34.3 million in sales. This is just a slow weekend where mostly sequels had taken over the box office. Also something to mention is that the movie Skyscraper tanked this past weekend at the box office; the Dwayne Johnson movie has only grossed $46 million domestically.

Next weekend the sixth Mission Impossible movie will be released along with the animated Teen Titans movie. It looks like either movie could easily take the top spot. I’m not saying I’m over this year for movies; its just that the Godzilla: King of the Monsters really has me wishing time would go a little faster.
