Rare announced today that the new Sea of Thieves: Cursed Sails expansion will be releasing on July 31st, 2018. This expansion adds the threat of Skeleton Crews taking to the water, attacking Outposts during a timed campaign. Players who hunt down the source and defeat these seafaring-Skellies will receive special rewards. This free expansion also adds a three-person Brigantine ship and a new Alliance system which lets different pirate crews work together.

Ready your cannons as Cursed Sails arrives, the second free update for Rare’s Sea of Thieves. The dead set sail for war on the Outposts, so eat your bananas, load your guns and prepare to meet skeleton ships in battle!
First announced during the Xbox E3 2018 press conference, this expansion follows the pattern of The Hungering Deep, introducing a new threat with a timed campaign. After the campaign is over, all the new elements of the world will continue on and the possibility of Skeleton attack while at sea will forever be present.
The next expansion after Cursed Sails is Forsaken Shores, which will be coming sometime in September 2018.
