Omission of single player campaign remains a contentious issue in this console generation. While the original Titanfall opted to merge a campaign into its multiplayer, results were mixed.
However, it seems that Respawn Entertainment is looking to make amends and will include a single player campaign in Titanfall 2.
Lead writer, Jesse Stern, said the game takes place in world that is both scientifically advanced and yet magical, but remains “grounded, dirty human, and real.”
“One of the shortcomings of the first game was we just did not have the mechanism to tell everyone ‘here’s who you are, here’s where you are, and who’s around you,'” Stern said. “We knew all the answers, we just could not deliver it.”
Stern said Respawn is looking to “deliver a vision of grand global colonial warfare,” and retell “the story of the American Revolution and the American Civil War in space.”
The original Titanfall surpassed 10 million copies sold in October and that success allowed the game’s developer to delve deeper into its narrative and canon.
Titanfall 2 is expected to be released in 2016 on Xbox One, PS4, and PC.
