Marvel fans who are also console gamers haven’t been having a fun time in the past couple years. While Marvel games once populated consoles with hits like Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Ultimate Marvel vs Capcom 3, the well has since run out and Marvel has focused on mobile gaming. This is a stark contrast to rival company DC who’s been pumping out critically acclaimed hits such as Injustice: Gods Among Us and the Batman: Arkham series.
However, it appears that Marvel has plans for future console games. During a panel at San Diego Comic Con, Marvel Games producer Mike Jones has this to say: “We are very much focused on what our console strategy will be for the future,” “Obviously console games take a lot longer to incubate, so that will be a slower process for us.” Jones also goes on to say that “We are very much taking a controlled, less-is-more, quality-focused, developer-focused strategy, But it is very top of mind, and we’ll have a lot more announcements probably next year.”
This is very exciting news for Marvel fans who have felt nneglected by Marvel and their recent efforts in gaming. If anything, it appears that the opposite has been happening and that Marvel is making sure that the next big game featuring their characters will be great.
Earlier this year, Marvel announced a deal with Telltale Games. But nothing else has been said about the deal, it can be assumed that Telltale’s game is a part of the plans Jones was talking about.
