On April 15th, the famous Notre Dame Cathedral went under flames and took devastating damage. In response to this, Ubisoft has stepped in to offer some help with this post from their Twitter earlier today:

In this article posted on their official site, Ubisoft gives it’s condolences to the devastating damage taken from the fire to the historical Cathedral. The company has donated €500,000 to help with the reconstruction of Notre Dame, and has also offered Assassins’s Creed Unity as free to download to “give everyone the chance to experience the majesty and beauty of Notre-Dame the best way we know how.”. Unity will be available for PC users to download for free until April 25th 3:00am local time. You can access the free download here.
In addition to this, there’s been some speculation on whether or not the actual game itself will be helpful to the rebuild of the Cathedral. As with all Assassin’s Creed games, Ubisoft works very hard to ensure that the locations the games are covering are as accurate as possible to the very last detail.
For Unity, it took several years to intricately design it’s environment, especially on the most famous landmarks such as the Notre Dame Cathedral. While there hasn’t been anything offically spoken by Ubisoft yet, it’s very possible that the renderings of the Cathedral from Unity could help with the reconstruction. The 3D renders could potentially give those rebuilding an extremely detailed copy to work with.
