Epic Launches the Epic Games Store, Will Share 88% Revenue With Developers

In a powerful move, Epic launches the Epic Games Store. The Epic Games Store will feature an 88/12% revenue split, where developers keep 88% of the revenue from their games being sold on the storefront. Other digital storefronts have generally used a 70/30% split.

Epic founder and CEO Tim Sweeney spoke to GamesIndustry.biz about the Epic Games Store. When asked about the major shift in revenue split (as compared to other storefronts like Steam) Tim Sweeney said that “In our analysis, stores charging 30% are marking up their costs by 300% to 400%. But with developers receiving 88% of revenue and Epic receiving 12%, this store will be a profitable business for us.”

Epic Games shared the chart below, showing how the revenue split will work:

This is a major move, no doubt spurred on by the wild success of Fortnite and intended to disrupt the existing PC ecosystem. It’ll be interesting to see what kind of success the Epic Games Store finds as we move into 2019.
