Super Mario Run Not Profitable Enough For Nintendo

For several years people have been clamoring for Nintendo to release games on mobile devices and when they finally relented and released Super Mario Run for iOS and Android, the results were not so great. The game has been downloaded over 200 million times but the relatively hefty $9.99 price point has not made Super Mario Run profitable enough for Nintendo’s liking.

The news is not entirely bleak though. The game was intended to introduce Mario to players who do not own Nintendo consoles and it may have done exactly that – 90% of the downloads were outside of Japan. It also seems that Nintendo is planning more updates for Super Mario Run. “Our aim is for this application to be the definitive Mario application for smart devices,” said Tatsumi Kimishima, president of Nintendo.
