TV DVR coming to Xbox One in 2016

As part of their Gamescom press conference, Microsoft has announced that TV DVR will be available for all Xbox One owners as of 2016. Xbox Live Gold membership will not be needed to use the feature, and no separate subscription will be required for TV DVR either.

The TV DVR features are usable for all free TV programs and can be recorded whilst you play your games seamlessly. The programs you record will also be available on your Windows devices to watch on the go and can be accessed without an internet connection.

TV recording seems like the next logical step for the console as, when first announced, it was said to be an all-in-one entertainment system. The console can already record up to 5 minutes of gameplay, game DVR is snappable and other apps allow you to edit the footage. It is as yet unclear whether other kinds of TV programs will be recordable however. The Xbox One does have external hard-drive support meaning that running dry on that 500Gb storage shouldn’t be a problem.
