If you’re looking for a memory card with enough capacity to hold all of those upcoming Nintendo Switch games or your movie collection on a tablet, SanDisk has you covered. The company has just revealed a memory card with a whopping 400GB of storage capacity.

That kind of storage won’t come cheaply though. The suggested retail price for this memory card is $249 USD. To be fair, retailers such as Amazon are known to sell memory cards for below their MSRP after some time has passed. A 256GB memory card can be had for about $130 from that site now.

SanDisk’s 400GB monster is the largest capacity memory card in the world – the previous record holder was the 256GB capacity memory card. It can transfer data at a rate of 100MB per second and is a Class A1 device when it comes to app performance. That is the top performance tier according to the SD Association.

SanDisk has not offered an expected release date for the new 400GB memory card. I’d expect it to be available during the holiday shopping season but we probably won’t see much of a discount until next year.

The SDXC memory cards are theoretically capable of up to 2TB of storage though nobody has come close to that threshold in a commercially released memory card.

Are you interested in a 400GB microSD card? What would you store on it? I might actually get one for my Nintendo Switch next year.
