Recently, Google took the stage and revealed their streaming project called Stadia. They’re working to provide different levels of streaming, including 4K 60fps and are developing their own controller that works through WiFi. They’ve also got Jade Raymond as the head their new first-party studio, Stadia Games and Entertainment. Earlier today, Brad Sams of Thurrott.com reported that Phil Spencer emailed Xbox employees after the Google Stadia presentation.

In the email, Phil Spencer talked about Google’s approach and the position Xbox is now in.  He also mentioned that he wants to go big at E3 2019.

Here’s the email in which Phil Spencer talks about Google Stadia:

We just wrapped up watching the Google announcement of Stadia as team here at GDC. Their announcement is validation of the path we embarked on two years ago..

Today we saw a big tech competitor enter the gaming market, and frame the necessary ingredients for success as Content, Community and Cloud. There were no big surprises in their announcement although I was impressed by their leveraging of YouTube, the use of Google Assistant and the new WiFi controller.

But I want get back to us, there has been really good work to get us to the position where we are poised to compete for 2 billion gamers across the planet. Google went big today and we have a couple of months until E3 when we will go big.

We have to stay agile and continue to build with our customer at the center. We have the content, community, cloud team and strategy, and as I’ve been saying for a while, it’s all about execution. This is even more true today.

Energizing times.

Phil

Microsoft will have a quite a bit to talk about at E3, with Halo Infinite and the Slipspace engine getting focus, as well as the next-gen Xbox hardware and Project xCloud. With PlayStation not attending E3 2019 and EA not holding a conference, many eyes will be on Microsoft. Bethesda is still holding a showcase however, so they won’t be totally alone.

We’ll keep you updated on any announcements made and we’ll be providing coverage of E3 2019.
