Prepare to lose some major Netflix movies in October

Nexflix announced today that they will not be renewing their contract with Epix next month. What does this mean for you? Well all movies covered by that contract will be removed from the Netflix rosta in October, including Hunger Games: Catching Fire, Transformers: Age of Extinction and World War Z.

“while many of these movies are popular, they are also widely available on cable and other subscription platforms at the same time as they are on Netflix and subject to the same drawn out licensing periods.”

In addition to this announcement, Netflix has also stated that it will be focusing heavily on its exclusive and original content including its Marvel shows. They are currently partnering with Marvel Studios to expand the Marvel Cinematic Universe to the small screen with Daredevil, Jessica Jones, Luke Cage and The Defenders all arriving in 2015/2016. Netflix are currently aggressively pursing exclusive content and do not seem interested in providing content that is available elsewhere in the streaming market. Unfortunately for Epix it seems they fall into this group of undesirables despite the aforementioned movies being very popular on the service. Epix’s films will continue to be viewable on Amazon and also on Netflix until September 1st.
