When the Nintendo Switch was first revealed, there were many naysayers to the direction of the console. No company had truly tried a hybrid console before, and after the disaster of the Wii-U, many people were feeling unsure of the Nintendo Switch’s direction. However, as it has been revealed this week, Nintendo has struck gold with their hybrid console idea. Blending console gaming with a seamless handheld on the go experience, the Nintendo Switch is the fastest selling console this generation.

As per the NPD group the Nintendo Switch has sold a massive 8.7 million units in the United States since its launch back in March 2017. This puts the Switch ahead of both the Xbox One and PlayStation 4 at the same point in their life cycles. A strong launch lineup hugely contributed to Nintendo’s success, launching with Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild and bringing some big Wii-U titles such as Mario Kart 8 Deluxe across. With Legend of Zelda: Breath of The Wild selling 4 million units and Mario Kart 8 Deluxe moving 5 million units, it’s easy to see why the Nintendo Switch has been so dominating in the sales charts. This success will only continue to grow as Super Smash Bros Ultimate has already sold 3 million units in the United States alone in only 11 days on the market. Nintendo has been putting up huge numbers in all departments especially in the U.S, thanks to Business Wire here are some quick data facts about the Nintendo Switch.
