Nintendo Reports Profit Spike In FY2018

Nintendo has found itself enjoying a significant spike in profits during FY2018 according to the most recent financial statement posted by the company.

Nintendo has posted $9.7 billion in net revenues which represents a YoY increase of over 115%. Consumers have purchased over 15 million Switch consoles over the last fiscal year – more than the Wii U managed to sell over its entire lifetime. Nintendo says that nearly 18 million Switch units have been shipped since its launch in early 2017. The best selling game on the Switch is Super Mario Odyssey (as if there was any doubt) with nearly 10.5 million copies sold. This factors physical copies, digital sales and bundled games. Mario Kart 8 Deluxe is in a very close second place with over 9 million units sold. Over 8.5 million units of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild have been sold while Splatoon 2 has cleared over 6 million sales. Kirby Star Allies is closing in on 1.5 million copies sold. In total, customers have purchased over 63.5 million games for the Switch.

It is not all about the Switch, however. Over 10 million Amiibo figurines and over 5 million Amiibo cards were sold in FY2018. The SNES Mini console has surpassed 5 million sales in the same time period. Over 6 million 3DS consoles and nearly 36 million 3DS games were sold in the last financial year; not too shabby for a system that launched way back in 2011. Nintendo is forecasting 4 million 3DS console and 16 million 3DS game sales in FY2019.

Digital game sales on Nintendo platforms are skyrocketing. The company reported an 87% YoY increase in digital sales totaling well over $500 million. Mobile game revenues increased 62% YoY for a total of $360 million.

Nintendo is forecasting over $11 billion in revenue and over $1.5 billion in profit during FY2019.
